Enhancing Accuracy in Side-scan Navigation and Bathymetric Data Interpretation

This study explores critical issues in the navigation area, focusing on the accuracy of side-scan sonar and DT bathymetry data. It investigates methods for ensuring correct NMEA data through testing, monitoring, and reporting. Furthermore, we propose standardized cleaning techniques for data and examine how we can reliably report the accuracy of our outputs, including the use of 'error bars.' Lastly, we assess the potential interest in forming a navigation management committee to oversee these practices and enhance overall data reliability.

  5. What I’m after • Can we ensure the NMEA is correct: testing, monitoring, reporting?? • Can we adopt standard methods for cleaning • How accurate is what we are producing and how do we report ‘error bars’? • Is there interest in a navigation management committee?
