  1. IEEE Computer SocietyCloud ComputingFuture Technologies Sub-Strategy • Irena Bojanova • Chair, Cloud Computing STCFuture Technologies Sub-Strategy, IEEE CS

  2. Agenda – August 28, 2012 • Introduction • STC Goals and Scope • JOIN button • STC Logo • Updates by Group http://techsol.tnlexperts.com/2012/02/05/cloud-computing/

  3. STC Goals and Scope A quick look at Goals vs. Objectives http://www.diffen.com/difference/Goal_vs_Objective

  4. STC Goals and Scope Based on CS Strategic Plan and input from CLOUD 2012 – too broad: CS CC STC goals are to lead the definition andformulation of Cloud Computing concepts for IEEE: • Formulate framework architecture • Define interoperability principles and standards • Serve as coordinating body for all interested organizations/industries Define Scope – discussion in Working Area > CS CC STC: • Cloud computing service/deployment/architecture models • Service ecosystems • High performance computing • Big data • Cloud based mobility

  5. STC Goals and Scope John Walz — Add as objective:“Become the thought leader on CC as measured by Xplore content and downloads” Irena— suggestion for more focused goals and scope: The goals of CS CC STC are to: • Become the premier CC community • Determine, strategize, and grow CS CC assets • Recruit experts, authors, reporters — (OR do this “to accomplish the rest”) • Disseminate knowledge on CC • Provide technical guidance on CC • Increase number of CS members — (question was raised if this should be included) The scope of CS CC STC work covers: • CC service/deployment/architecture models, interoperability,  and security • Coordination of CC activities across the CS Boards; at/in CC Conferences, Education, Publishing, and Standards • Creation of overall infrastructure: CC BoK, newsletter, Web Portal, and testbed • Collaboration with TCs, partnering societies, and IEEE CCI.

  6. STC Goals and Scope San — aim for higher level goals and those goals should be specific and explicit  in order to distinguish it from several other communities/organizations.  CS CC STC goals could be: • To become a premier CC community in developing and disseminating CC knowledge, in establishing global cloud standards, and in addressing real-world issues and problems • To assist enterprises in cloud adoption by offering them a framework and roadmap and (vendor-neutral) guidelines for cloud adoption • To develop IEEE cloud computing curriculum for adoption by universities and colleagues around the world • To establish and provide cloud test bed for research and development by researchers and industry • To provide guidance and suggestions on government policies and regulations related to cloud computing • To facilitate information exchange by organizing and/or supporting conferences, workshops and forums (In order to accomplish these we will recruit volunteer authors, practitioners, researchers, etc.  Recruiting by itself need not be a primary goal.  Also, we don’t have to mention increasing number of CS members as a goal of this community.)

  7. STC Goals and Scope San (cont.) —  The scope of CS CC STC work covers: • Cloud technologies and services: cloud services, deployment models, cloud standards and interoperability, security, audit • Creation and provision of cloud test bed (note: IEEE CCI is working on creating a testbed; our STC -- is not) • Development and provision of BoK • Publication of CC Web Portal, News letters • Collaboration with TC, IEEE societies, and other agencies and stakeholders • Coordination with CS Boards  and IEEE CCI (with regard to Conferences, Education, Publishing, and Standards)

  8. JOIN Button on Working Area Discussion started on the following, so lets’ agree and I will update the requirements: • Remove CC from the form check boxes:

  9. JOIN Button on Working Area Discussion started on the following, so lets’ agree and I will update the requirements: • John Walz: Have commonality across our other / future Future Technology areas and possibly deployment to our other STCs. • Chuck Hamstra: Have analytics associated with the JOIN button – (yes, this will be done) • Should we allow non CS members to join the STC? San: “let’s open the membership to CC STC to any one who volunteer to contribute to its activities – let’s make it an open group.  There would be people who are not members of IEEE CS (particularly from industry) but would be willing contribute to our activities particularly in areas such as standards, BoK and training, bringing practical insights and addressing real-world issues.  Accordingly, the first stage in the registration process may need to modified.”

  10. JOIN Button on Working Area • Have info on member’s country – (if CS member, this should come from the CS membership info) • Include areas of expertise/interest (in cloud computing).  San: This would also assists us  in seeking help from them based on their expertise/interest.  This filed could a free text field, or  tick boxes (in which case we need to specify a broad group of areas). • Does it make sense to have 1 or 2 sentences to describe each group?  Most of the groups are pretty self explanatory name-wise, but it would help volunteers understand exactly they would be signing up to do. ( • we can have tooltips • JOIN and “Get Involved” buttons functionalities will allow adding/removing member to groups, so after exploring Groups pages or overtime.

  11. STC Logo • Specific design requests (color, style, etc.)? • Point to existing ads or graphics to use a basis • Note: the logo should be not overloaded, to be visible when very tiny. • Clouds graphics incorporated in blue in place or with the "CC" part in CS CC STC., like here: • Put “CC STC”  a light bulb like the map is now.  • Have the light bulb in a cloud • Put “CC STC” as the leader of the fish school

  12. STC Logo • Gyan: Have lots of identical clouds?  Get it?  Standards...Point to existing ads or graphics to use a basis. • Madhukar: Blue color shows the cloud Green color shows the sustainability Black color shows emptiness or new possibilities and powerfulness • Don
