  6. Question • Main idea (Thesis) Black Widow spiders are dangerous. • Hook : Question • What is one of the tiniest but deadliest animals on earth? It can kill with a single bite. It is the Black Widow spider. Black Widow spiders are dangerous.

  7. DESCRIPTION • Thesis: We must keep our rivers clean. • Hook: Description • A family is canoeing down a river. As they look from side to side they see rusty cans, plastic sacks, and even dirty diapers. This can not be healthy. We must keep our rivers clean.

  8. Startling Fact • Thesis: We must keep our rivers clean. • Hook: Startling fact • Four million gallons of waste materials are dumped into U.S. rivers every day. If we are not careful, we won’t have water to drink! We must keep our rivers clean.

  9. Quotation • Thesis: The mountains are a great place to vacation. • Hook: Quote • The famous traveler Robert Jones once said, “ If you really want to relax and have fun, visit the mountains.” I agree. The mountains are a great place to vacation.

  10. Thesis • The thesis is the main idea of the essay. • It states an opinion. • It is ONE sentence. • It is the LAST sentence in the introduction.
