Mission Statement Massachusetts Health Frameworks: “Through health literacy, healthy self management skills, and health promotion, comprehensive health education teaches fundamental concepts, promotes habits and conduct that enhances health and wellness, and guides efforts to build healthy families, relationships, schools, and communities.” The Manchester Essex Regional School District will provide a dynamic and comprehensive program that enables our students to become healthy, knowledgeable, and caring citizens.

Health Education Recommendations ELEM: Pilot Program currently being run at both Essex Elementary School and Memorial Elementary School – Grades K-2 and 3-5 DISTRICT: A Health Curriculum is being developed to create a more sequential K-10 delivery of Health Education. HS: Health is a part of Physical Education in 9th/10th grade HS: Currently health programming ends at 10th grade Continue to teach Health Education at the Elementary Schools and increase the length of time dedicated to each unit Articulated, comprehensive K-10 Health curriculum Determine if this combined Phys. Ed./Health programming is still the best delivery model Explore health electives in upper grades (11th and 12th) StatusFuture Goal

  8. Physical Education Recommendations ELEM: Physical Education classes are taught at all elementary grades Fitness Testing is done at both Elementary Schools MS: Phys. Ed meets 3x/6 day cycle Project Adventure Low and High Elements were not reinstalled at the MS/HS HS: Half year course CPR/First Aid not offered No Physical Education for Grades 11 and 12 Implement best practices recommended by NASPE Install a Low Element Course at Memorial Implement best practices recommended by NASPE Construct a Low and High Element Project Adventure Course for both MS/HS Full Year Course (9&10) First Aid/CPR Elective (11&12) StatusFuture Goal
