  1. Conclusion (D) Medical Services Living Environment Living Resources $10

  2. Area of public housings or old age homes the elderly people are living LIVING ENVIRONMENT Refer to the questionnaire, we find out that most old people in Shatin who live in public housing or old age homes think their living environment is safe and good.

  3. However, some of elderly are living in small flats and they live with their family. Also most of the elderly suggest that there should be more entertaining facilities and shopping centers. Therefore our group suggests the government building more entertaining facilities (e.g. recreational buildings for elderly ) and shopping centers in Shatin. Also the size of the houses for elderly should be bigger if they live with their family members.

  4. Medical Service Refer to the questionnaire, most people have not had the body check up provided by the government and they have not got any brochures or joined any activities of health education . The reason is that they think that it is a waste of time. Secondly, they think that it is not necessary to go because they are healthy. Some of them do not know the schemes and information. The rest of them think that private body check is enough.

  5. In order to solve the above problems, we think that the government should: • promote the importance of body check scheme; • show that the body check up scheme is better than private body check up; • take measures to shorten the waiting time;

  6. Have the elderly applied for the Senior Citizen Card? Do the elderly find the Senior Citizen Card useful? Living Resources 86% of the elderly in Shatin we interviewed have applied for Senior Citizen Card and more than 97% of them think it is useful, especially for shopping in supermarkets and the 50-per- cent-discount in traveling by public transport. Therefore we think that the government should keep on providing such discounts for the elderly.

  7. There are 30% of the elderly in Shatin we interviewed have applied for the SSA and most of them find it useful. However some of them think that the money is not enough and the government is now going to cut the SSA. We think that the government should keep on allocating the SSA to the elderly and should not cut the SSA because it is important in supporting their daily life.

  8. There are only 8% of the elderly have applied for the CSSA. The remaining 92% of the elderly have not applied for the CSSA because they do not meet the application requirements. However, some of them cannot support their daily life easily with their own money. We suggest the government adjusting the application requirements of CSSA to help the elderly who are not poor but not rich enough to support their daily life.

  9. Overall Conclusion In whole, the living of the elderly in Shatin is quite good. Most of them can receive the facilities and services provided by the government. In order to deal with the aging population in Hong Kong, our group suggest the government keeping on allocating the services and facilities to the elderly instead of cutting the resources of the elderly.
