Communism in the Soviet Union • A communist dictatorship was established in the Soviet Union • The leaders were called Premieres, and they were absolute rulers • The Communist Party was the only legal political party, and being a member of it was necessary if you wanted any important job • Communist economic policies caused severe damage to the people of the Soviet Union • Agriculture was collectivized, a process in which private ownership of land was ended and the government made all decisions on farming • This led to widespread starvation
