  1. Psyche and Cupid Retold By: Blakely, Mariah, Zoe, and Kate

  2. There were three daughters. The youngest one, Psyche, was the most beautiful one. Her two older sisters were really jealous of her beauty. People compared her to Aphrodite, who was also really jealous of Psyche.

  3. Since Aphrodite was jealous of Psyche’s beauty, she sent her son, Cupid, to shoot Psyche with his love arrows so she would fall in love with a hideous monster . Instead, the arrow fell and pierced Cupid’sfoot and he suddenly fell in love with Psyche.

  4. Soon Psyche’s parents consulted an oracle to see what fate awaited their daughter. They were told that Psyche would soon marry a hideous monster.

  5. Not long after that, Psyche fell off a hill and laid there at the bottom. Soon Cupid sent a wing that took Psycheto a palace. In the palace Psyche never saw her husband’s face but only heard his voice.

  6. Psyche convinced her husband to let her two sisters come and visit her at the palace. They wanted to see her husband’s face but she told them that she had never really seen his face. So the sisters said to go in his room when he is sleeping and bring a candle and knife to see if he was a mortal or a monster.

  7. That night Psyche went to her husband’s room with a candle and knife and saw that her husband was neither a mortal nor monster, he was Cupid!! Psyche accidentally dropped hot wax on Cupid’s shoulder and he woke up. When Cupid saw Psyche with knife and candle he fled the palace. The palace also disappeared with Psyche inside.

  8. Psyche went to Aphrodite to ask where Cupid was and Aphrodite said that Psyche could see Cupid if she completed 3 tasks.

  9. The first task that Aphrodite gave Psyche was to sort grains by the evening. Aphrodite knew that Psyche couldn’t do it. Psyche found a group of ants that were glad to help her. She finally finished it before the sunset.

  10. The second task was that she had to get a lot of gold fleece from the sheep grazing in the field. Psyche got some advice from a sparrow on when would be the best time to get the fleece.

  11. Next was task 3. It was to go to the underworld to get Persephone’s beauty in a box. Aphrodite also asked Psyche not to look in the box. Psyche got the box but temptation got the best of her and she looked in the box. The beauty came out. Cupid flew to Psyches side and put it back in the box.

  12. Since Psyche completed the 3 tasks, Cupid was no longer under Aphrodite’s rule. He became visible to everyone and he kissed Psyche when she was sleeping in order to wake her up. They both vowed to never leave each other. Afterword Aphrodite convinced Zeus to let them live together.

  13. They lived happily ever after! The end!
