Research A Study of Obstacles to Cross-border Undergraduate Education (2011) (For IBEC-CBI Joint Business Council and EURES) Comprehensive Study on North-South Cooperation in the Education Sector (2011) (For Department of Education and Skills (ROI) & Department of Education (NI)) Cross-border postgraduate student flows (2008) (For Department of Education and Skills)

  4. Key Obstacles Lack of information Unfamiliarity with national university application system (UCAS, CAO) Value given to qualifications (A-Levels, Leaving Cert.) from the other jurisdiction Student Fees Lack of adequate recognition of alternative Qualifications

  5. Cross-Border Co-operation and Student Mobility Project Team (Department of Employment and Learning) Supporting cross-border co-operation in teaching and learning, with the aim of increasing understanding, sharing good practice and enabling students to move freely between the two jurisdictions. One of several project teams to take forward the Higher Education Strategy for Northern Ireland, Graduating to Success Chaired by Ruth Taillon, CCBS Director Members include representatives from QUB, OU, UU, University and College Union, NUS-USI, NWRC, DENI, HEA and DEL.

Promoting Irish Universities • North-South Postgraduate Scholarships • To encourage outstanding students to undertake postgraduate study and experience life in the other Irish jurisdiction. • In 2014: Three scholarships -- each scholarship worth €15,000 • Annual Conference • 1914 -- Reflecting on WWI: Belfast City Hall, 14 June 2014 • Annual PhD History Bursary • To support PhD research into a topic related to the 1912-1923 period • Each bursary worth €20,000

  8. ‘SEED FUNDING’ for North/South Research Projects • SCoTENS provides ‘seed funding’ for projects such as research, conferences and exchanges • 86 projects funded 2003-2013 (approx. Stg£3,000 - £6,000 • Web based educational resources • Special Needs, Citizenship, ICT etc. • North/South Student Teacher Exchange Programme • Student teachers from Dublin and Limerick do a key part of their assessed teaching practice in Belfast schools and Belfast student teachers do the same in Dublin and Limerick.
