  2. Expectations at Grade 3/4 • Listening to each other • Hands up • Discussion – more is expected • We expect that everyone can achieve and mistakes are welcomed • Children are encouraged to have a go

  3. Personal Organisational Skills • Bring their plastic pocket to school each day • Homework- • Read at home every night • Learn their weekly spelling words • Finish any incomplete work • Dress appropriately on special days, eg PE • Look in their diary for dates • Organising their own writing implements • Presentation of book work

  4. Literacy • Focus this term is persuasive reading and writing • Inquiry is integrated throughout Literacy • We cover the following areas- Reading, writing, spelling, speaking and listening • Reading- Inferential questioning- here, head, hidden • Speaking and Listening- Sharing their ideas about their previous knowledge of a topic

  5. Numeracy • Contemporary Teaching and Learning of Mathematics (CTLM) has changed the way we teach maths • Children are encouraged to share their strategies • Children are encouraged to solve problems in different ways • Hands on materials are used a lot more at this level • We try and relate Maths learning to everyday life • Focus this term is addition and time

  6. Religion • Focus this term- Our Parish, 150th Celebrations and First Eucharist • First Eucharist preparation- • Enrolment Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th May • Eucharist- Saturday 16th/Sunday 17th and Saturday 23rd/Sunday 24th June • Each class participates in daily prayers • We also attend masses regularly as a year level and as a whole school on special occasions • We relate the Gospel stories to the children’s lives and how they can demonstrate these attributes in their own lives

  7. Inquiry • Focus this term- Australian History and Our Parish • Focussing on the resource My Place -TV series, book and website, which shows the history of Australia in decades from 1788 to 1988 • Children will be learning about significant events in Australia’s history • Children will participate in local excursions

  8. What’s Coming Up? • Family Week – 7th May – 11th May, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, Mother’s night • NAPLAN for Grade 3 – 15th – 17th May • Life Education Van • Term 3 – Ski Trips to Mt Buller • Term 4 - Camp
