There are three main cities in Turkey including the Capital; • Ankara has a population of 5 million which even though it is the is the capital it is not the largest city. • Istanbul has a population of nearly 9 million. This is also the only city in two continents in the world making it the cultural capital of Turkey. • Izmir has a population of around 3 million. This is the tourist area as it has a warm climate.   3. There are 7 regions in Turkey each with there own songs/dances and traditions • Aegean Region • Black Sea Region • Central Anatolia Region • Eastern Anatolia Region • Marmara Region • Mediterranean Region • South-eastern Anatolia Region The 7 Regions

  4. In The Aegean Region the traditional dance is the Yalibik, Zeybek folk dances. The dance is often performed by the women of the village as part of celebrations or festivities. • www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Bjic3TYFmE • In the Black Sea region the traditional dance is the Kolbasti. It consists of many people gathering wearing anklets with bells on. The dances look a bit like irish with people tapping and kicking their legs. Traditions

  5. Central Antolia has a traditional dance called the Misket and also has its own version of the Zeybek folk dances • Eastern Antolia has a traditional dance called the Klarnet a folk dance • South-eastern Antolia has a traditional dance called the Zurna dance. Traditions

  6. Mediterrean Region once again has its own version of the Zeybek folk dances. • Mamara region has its own version of the Aegean Yalibik dance but it is performed with bells on the ankles and is performed for slightly different occasions. Traditions

  7. Turkish coffee houses. In turkey there are many coffee houses and it is thought to be rude to drink less than three cups at a time. • Turkish baths • When you greet elders that you know you should kiss their right hand. Other National Traditions

  8. In Turkey there is no state religion but about 80% are Muslim and the rest mainly Jewish or Christian. Religions
