  2. When was it?? • On April 41968 Martin Luther King got shot just outside his hotel room

  3. Where did it happen?? • In Memphis TN • Just outside the Lorraine Hotel • On his balcony • Black sanitation workers were striking to protest unequal pay and poor working conditions

  4. Why/How did it happen?? • A man named James Earl Ray shot Martin Luther King Jr. • He was angry with the work that Martin Luther King Jr. did and so he shot him • Riots were a result of the shooting

  5. Results of the shooting. • Mass riots in 100 cities in the U.S fallowing King’s death. • The killer was sentenced to 99 years in Federal Prison • A few months later, Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1968, which prohibited racial discrimination in the sale and rental of most housing in the nation

  6. Who was involved?? • James Earl Ray • Martin Luther King Jr.

  7. What Happened?? • He stepped outside and across the street a man with a 9MM pistol shot him just above his eye and it killed him in .5 seconds on impact.
