  2. April 4, 1968 • Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot on his motel room’s balcony at 6:01 pm by a .30 caliber rifle fired by James Earl Ray. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead at 7:05 pm.

  3. He had been staying at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis Tennessee. The FBI investigated the murder and determined that the escaped convict by the name of James Earl Ray. The public believed that the FBI was partially or fully responsible for the murder. He got to Memphis later than expected because of a bomb threat for his flight.
