  1. Student Ratings on Century High School Lunch Allen Maceda Isaac Avila Brian Pineda Period 2 2011-2012

  2. CA Standards • 8.0 Students organize and describe distributions of data by using a number of different methods, including frequency tables, histograms, standard line and bar graphs, stem-and-leaf displays, scatter plots, and box-and-whisker plots. • 17.0 Students determine confidence intervals for a simple random sample from a normal distribution of data and determine the sample size required for a desired margin of error. • 18.0 Students determine the P- value for a statistic for a simple random sample from a normal distribution.

  3. Hypothesis • We believe that the average rating for lunch at Century will be 2 on a 1-5 scale.

  4. Data Collection • We collected data using the cluster sampling method. Our only focus was on the senior class 2012 because they have the most experience eating this food. • A possible bias is asking somebody that doesn’t eat lunch at school. • Another possible bias is asking a person that’s vegan, that only eats salad and fruits.

  5. Data • Ratings on School Lunch (scale of 1-5) • 2, 3, 3, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 1, 3, 2, 1, 3, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 1, 3, 2, 2, 1, 4, 2, 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3

  7. Statistics Estimated through our survey the mean rating for Century’s school lunch is 2.05 of 5 with a standard deviation of 0.75

  8. Confidence Interval We are 95% confident that the population mean question is between 1.8178~2.2822.

  9. Hypothesis Testing • Hypothesis: • Test Statistics: P Value = 0.6733 > = 0.05 • Conclusion: At 5% level of significance, we fail to reject the . There is enough evidence to support the claim.

  10. Error Analysis • Our sample mean is a 2.05 rating, and the 95% confidence level for the population mean is between a 1.8 to 2.3 rating. The marginal error is about 1/2 or .5 of a rating. • Our sample error is caused by an unrepresented part of the population. Which can be either the people we skipped while surveying, as it was a cluster survey concentrated on the senior class of 2012. As well as students that where absent.

  11. Conclusion • We believe that the average rating for lunch at Century will be 2 on a 1-5 scale. Estimated through our survey the mean rating for Century’s school lunch is 2 of 5 with a standard deviation of 0.75. We are 95% confident that the population mean question is between 1.8178~2.2822. At 5% level of significance, we fail to reject the . There is enough evidence to support the claim.
