  6. PD Appointment Criteria • Current MTN TSF in the respective program • At least 2 yrs experience as a BLS instructor or have taught at least 8 courses, one must have been an instructor course. • Complete Core Instructor Course • Cannot be the same person as PA

  7. PD Appointment length • PD appointments are TS specific and do not transfer, length of appointment is at the discretion of CO. • Nomination packages to replace a PD should be sent to MTN 4-6 weeks prior to the incumbent’s departure. • The MTN Director is the signature authority for all PD TSF cards • The PD must maintain a current TSF Card. • Both the PA and PD have to be at the site to continue training!!!

  8. PD Responsibilities • Implement and Manage program • Notify MTN of problems, disputes or concerns • Maintain adequate training resources • Responsible for security of cards and tests • Monitor and review courses

  9. PD Responsibilities • Teach instructor/provider courses • Review instructor folders and appoint qualified TSF (no waivers) • Monitor training site and satellite cadre • Review and sign PCRs • Annual and Semi-Annual Reports

  10. COURSE CRITERIA • MTN Handbook 2-20 Course Criteria • Instructors must be current • Teach IAW AHA/MTN guidelines • Each student must have current textbooks • A course evaluation must be used to obtain feedback • After completion of the course, the appropriate card will be issued

  11. COURSE CRITERIA • MTN Handbook 2-21 Skills Test • Skills tests are a primary determinant of the students success in mastery of the course material • Administer tests as per outlined guidance, using the appropriate skills test sheet in the curriculum

  12. COURSE CRITIERIA • MTN Handbook 2-22 Written Test • Students must score 84% or higher to receive a card

  13. COURSE CRITERIA • MTN Handbook 2-23 Remediation • Instructors must provide remedial training to students. • If remediation is unsuccessful the student • Does not receive a card • Is required to attend another BLS class. • All documentation will be maintained for 3 years.

  14. COURSE CRITERIA • MTN Handbook 2-24 Instructor to student ratio • Student to Instructor 6:1 • Student to Manikin 3:1 • Manikin to Instructor 2:1

  15. COURSE CRITERIA • MTN Handbook 2-25 Renewal • Provider • If not expired- attend a renewal course • Attend a full course • Become an instructor in discipline

COURSE CRITERIA • MTN Handbook 2-25 Instructor Renewal • Option 1 • Demonstrate provider skills and pass test with 84% or better • Teach minimum of 4 courses • Attend updates • Receive successful monitoring evaluation • Option 2 • Complete instructor course • Be monitored teaching provider course

  18. COURSE CRITERIA • MTN Handbook 2-27 Core Instructor Course • All new BLS instructors are required to complete the AHA CIC before completing the instructor course. • Who needs the CIC: • All instructors trained after 1 Oct 06 • Are adding discipline • Becoming TSF/PD • National Faculty

  19. POST COURSE REPORTS • A PCR should include but may not be limited to • PCR Cover Page • Course Grade Report • MTN Summary Course Evaluation form • Course Agenda • Copy of Instructor/Renewal Checklist for instructor class

  20. INSTRUCTOR FOLDERS • Left Side • Teaching History • MTN CV for PD and TSF’s only • Equipment/disinfection memo • Any additional licensures/certificates

  23. MTN Delinquency Policy • < 15 Days – PA and or PD is notified • 15-20 Senior Leadership is notified • 25-30 TS is placed in abeyance • 30-45 TS is terminated • Exceptions on case by case basis with prior coordination • Policy located on MTN website

  24. Key Points • Follow guidelines and use the MTN website and handbook • Submit all nominations and reports by the deadline complete and accurate to avoid delays • Use the Admin Review Checklist to perform self inspections and maintain the proper documentation and equipment

  25. Updates • TS’s will receive guidance from the MTN identifying required items • Once TS has meet required guidance, TS will provide a memorandum signed by the PD to the MTN • Once compliance with new guidelines is confirmed, MTN will issue 2010 tests and authorize TS to begin teaching updates
