LCROSS Quest: Advanced Sling-Shot Lunar Impact Launch Device
The LCROSS Quest team presents an innovative launch device designed to simulate lunar impact using a mounted sling-shot mechanism. This device features a strong rubber band positioned in a shaft aligned directly above the target pan. Utilizing steel balls for maximum impact, the device allows for quick adjustments to various firing angles (70°, 45°, 15°) through a movable hinged board. Constructed mainly from wood with strong steel wire support, this design aims to enhance our understanding of lunar impacts effectively.

LCROSS Quest Project Sling-Shot Lunar Impact Launch Device By André Dean Emily
Our Device • Our Launch Device is essentially a mounted sling-shot that fires a ball directly at the target. It uses a strong rubber band positioned in a shaft placed directly over the target pan. The ball will be made of steel, so that it will create a strong impact. The shaft can be adjusted easily and quickly to fire at different impact angles; 70°, 45,° 15°. The launch shaft is supported by a moveable hinged board that can be placed in Notched areas on the base in order to change the angle of impact. The structure will be made primarily of wood, and some strong steel wire as the front support over the pan.
