Environmental Transformation and Ethnic Diversity in Modern Israel

The arrival of early settlers in Palestine marked the beginning of a significant environmental transformation, as they tackled mosquito and swamp-infested lands, and the arid Negev desert. Advanced irrigation technologies, such as pipelines and drip irrigation, turned these once barren lands into fruitful farmland. Today, Israel's ethnic landscape is diverse, with 80% of the population being Jewish from various backgrounds, including recent immigrants from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union. However, Arabs, comprising 20% of the population, face discrimination and seek a stronger voice amid ongoing conflicts since 1947, exacerbated by the PLO's establishment and continued violence.
