  2. Whereis Israel located? • Israel is a country located on the southeastern edge of southwest Asia. • Israel is bordered by about 7 countries or regions. In the north it is bordered by Lebanon, To the east by Syria and Jordan, on the south-west Egypt, The Gaza strip (Palestine) to the west and on the far west the Mediterranean sea. • Israel is found on the continent of Asia. Surrounded by various countries.

  3. Geographic features of Israel • Israel hosts the Jordan river along the borders with Jordan. • Israel has a two main mountain ridges running from north to south. These mountains are different layers of limestone. • Israel has a strip of salt water called the dead sea. Which is totally saturated in with salt.

  4. Climate of Israel • The climate of Israel is predominantly a Mediterranean climate. • The sub climate is variable depending on the proximity to the Mediterranean. • Short relatively cool, rainy winters. • Long, hot and rainless summers.

  5. Climate 2 Heavy snow falls only in the northernmost part of Golan Heights where the Mount Hermon summit (2,224 m above sea level) remains generally snow covered from December to March. In other parts of the country snow is observed rarely. The rainy season extends from October to early May, and rainfall peaks in December through February. Rainfall varies considerably by regions from the North to the South. Highest rainfall is observed in the North and center parts of the country and decreases in the southern part of Israel, from the Negev Desert to Eilat where rainfall is negligible.

  6. Environment of Israel • Israel is a small country. Often characterized with rapid growth in population. • Environmental concerns are quite numerous in Israel. Most of them regarding things that are vital to human life and existence. • There are great amounts of nature conservation in Israel. Some of the main subjects of conservation are: leopards, pelicans, and ibex. There is also landscape conservation. • Although there are many environmental related issues to be solved… the government doesn’t do much to help out with the conservation.

  8. Customs and Traditions of Israel. • Circumcision: An event in a new born baby boys life…. When a baby boy is born on the eighth day they have to go under a small operation. • Hanukah: Is the celebration known as “festival of lights”. This is to celebrate the writing of Moses in the Torah. • Sabbath: on Sabbath day the Jewish Israelis light a set of candles. • Before every meal the members of a family (Jews) pray and bless the food. There is always a loaf of bread which is prayed upon and then broken up for each person to get their share… the bread is then dipped into salt. Another part of the meal blessing is when everyone drinks a non-alcoholic drink resembling wine or blood.

  9. Government of Israel • Israel uses a government system called the Knesset. It has a Prime minister and a parliament. It is basically a democratic nation. • Israel has two main political parties but also has many smaller ones. • Israel has an extremely strong military for protection from the Arab league countries. Many of Israel's people, at the age of 18 must serve in the Israeli Military. • The head of the government is the President of the state.

  10. Economy Of Israel • Israel has a fairly modern economy. Various high-tech equipment Items and cut diamonds are very important exports. • Tourism also plays a really big role in Israel’s economy. • Israel has a lack of water which made farming as an economy difficult. However they over came this problem by modernizing their irrigation systems. • Israel imports grain for food and exports citrus fruits and eggs to bring in money.

Tourism in Israel • Tourism in Israel includes various locations, of which are a mix of cultural, religious and historical sites. • Israel has the highest number of museums per capital in the world. • Two of the most famous sites being the Red sea and The Dead sea. Israel is also bordered with the Mediterranean sea. • Israel has quite a wide variety of places to visit. And all these places are a mix between Jewish, Christian and Islamic backgrounds.

  12. Additional slide Economic: Israel had to over come a potential economic barrier. They had limited water supplies so improvised with what they had and figured out a good irrigation system and fixed the problem. Now that they have corrected that problem, one of their main exports is citrus fruits.
