  3. Geography is: • The social science that deals with the earth’s environment and the human impact on it.

  5. 2. Cultural Geography -refers to people’s impact on the earth’s surface or how people have changed the physical environment

  7. Who Said North Must be UP? Here is new way to look at the world.

  8. Lines of Latitude • Parallels • Imaginary lines running east to west around the globe, and used to measure distance north and south of the equator

  9. Lines of Longitude • Meridians • Imaginary lines running from pole to pole, and are used to measure distance east to west

  10. Tropics • Area of the globe between the Tropic of Cancer (23 ½ * N) and the Tropic of Capricorn (23 ½ * S) • Area of the globe that receives the most direct sunlight

  11. Absolute Location -an exact position on the earth’s surface -ex.- 23* N and 120* W Relative Location -an approximate location in relation to a place -ex.- I live next to Rita’s Water Ice in Lansdale
