  2. History Casimir III the Great. Drawing by Jan Matejko The education of Polish society was startedinthe12th century, and Poland soon became one of the most educated European countries.

  3. Location in Europe • Located in Central Europe • Over the Baltic Sea • Has 7 neighbouring countries

  4. The total area of Poland is 312,679 km² • Population is over 38.5 million people

  5. Poland is a unitary state made up of sixteen voivodeships.

  6. Economy • Currency: złoty (PLN) • GDP: 552,4 billion dollars (2006)

  7. Employment structure

  8. System of education • Starts at the age of 7 in primary school • Next is gymnasium that starts at the age of 13 and lasts for 3 years. • 3 years liceum or 4 years technikum, both end with maturity exanination.

  9. Primary School - Lasts 6 years, starts at the age of 7. - Ends with a final exam. - Is Obligatory for every child until the age of 18

  10. Gymnasium • Lasts 3 years, starts at the age of 13. • Ends with a final exam. • Is obligatory for very child until the age of 18

  11. Obligatory until the age of 18 • There are 3 types of schools : Lyceum (3 years), vocational high school (4 years) and vocational school (2 years).

  12. Matura Exam • Education i secondary school ends with maturity exam. • Everyone has to pass 3 writing exams and 2 oral exams. • You should gain 30% to pass

  14. Capital city - Warsaw • Founded in 13th c. • Capital since: 1596

  15. Cracow • Founded before 9th c. • The second capital of Poland.

  16. Częstochowa • Founded in 11th c. • The reliious capital of Poland
