  2. How can fires happen • Fireworks • Leaves the oven on • Burning toast • Lighting match's for a silly reason • Leaving cigarettes in saw-dust • Leaving hair straightners, curlers or crimpers on

  3. How they can be put out • Fires have to be put out safely or it can make it worse or cause harm to people around it. • By firemen • If the firemen can’t come get some water and throw it to the flames only if it is visible on the outside. • You might even have to wait for the firemen to come.

  4. Damage and harm with fireworks • Some teenagers like to mess around with fireworks when its bonfire night and Halloween. • It can cause damage to themselves and to property around them. • The ambulance and fire men are called to the scene.

  5. Why are we telling you • Its important for us firemen to come and teach you about fire safety because it is important because firemen can be called to a scene of kids messing with fireworks from year 6 age which is 10 to 11.

  6. Damage that can happen • Lose an eye • Lose limbs • Bad burns • Blisters • Hand blown up

What to do • Always check that no children or animals are hiding in the bonfire before lighting. • Keep some buckets of water nearby in case of emergency and to damp down after the event. • Bonfires built on council land without permission will be removed. • Make sure all pets are inside at all times. • Alcohol and fireworks do not mix and may lead to injury. • Never throw fireworks. • Make sure everyone is standing at least 10 meters away from the fires.

  10. Have a Safe Bonfire Night! Please consider attending an organised event rather than risking your safety by having your own bonfire.

  12. If you're planning on hosting a fireworks party "be safe, not sorry" and keep it free from accidents by following the Fireworks Code.

Firework code • Fireworks should not be sold to any person under the age of 18. • Ideally attend an organised display. • Keep fireworks in a closed metal box. • Follow the instructions on each firework. • Stand well back. • Never go back to a lit firework. • Never put fireworks in your pocket. • Keep a bucket of water nearby if you are setting off fireworks in your garden. • Never throw fireworks. • Keep pets indoors. • Alcohol and fireworks do not mix and may lead to injury

  14. Don’t break the law!!! • It's illegal to let fireworks off between 23:00 and 07:00, except on Bonfire Night (midnight), Diwali, New Year, and Chinese New Year (01:00). • It's illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to possess fireworks in a public place.
