This webquest explores the nature of computer viruses, defining them as programs that can infect other software by modifying them to replicate. We discuss how viruses can affect program files as well as certain data files that contain executable content. Additionally, we address how vulnerabilities in software can lead to instability in host programs when viral code is executed. Understanding these concepts is crucial for cybersecurity and the protection of digital assets in an increasingly interconnected world.

Viruses • A virus is a program that can ‘infect’ other programs by modifying them to involve a possibly evolved copy of itself. • Viruses effect program files , but they can also effect certain types of data files that support executable content. • A virus may not be infectable, but can allow for a viral code. Vulnerabilities in certain products can allow data files to become manipulated in a way that it can cause the host program to be unstable.
