Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) and the UW What it does What it does not do No guaranteed admission Does not automatically meet CADRs; watch out for English (Second Language) Foreign Language Fine Arts Intermediate Algebra Does not complete all UW general education requirements for Bachelor’s • Adds to higher priority for admission – 90 transfer credits • Helps meet minimum admission requirements. • Courses counted towards a distribution area for the DTA degree, will be accepted towards similar requirement at UW • Exception: courses needed to meet composition and foreign language cannot be used for Areas of Knowledge • Prepare for variety of majors. 6. What about foreign language?This slide is added, based on conversation at the conference • UW Admissions – CADR: requires two years in high school or two quarters in college (i.e. complete level two in a language) • Graduate from UW: level three (3rdyr high school, or 3rdqtr college) is required for degrees in these colleges: Arts & Sciences, Education, Social Work • Both of these are considered completed if students meet the UW definition of “native language” (studied in that language up through 7th grade), or, students can contact Admissions Office for testing. AA-DTA allows 5 credits of first year foreign language in Humanities category. What happens to those credits? • If students study in the colleges of Arts & Sciences, Education or Social Work, AND they are using this language to meet their graduation foreign language requirement, those credits will go towards foreign language rather than VLPA (they’ll now need more VLPA credits). • If they do not use this language towards an FL graduation requirement (because it is their third language or studying in a different college), than per the DTA, advisers at UW can count those 5 credits for VLPA. • EXCEPT: this is not allowed by the College of Engineering, due to national engineering accreditation standards.

Associate in Science Transfer Degree (AST agreement) Track 1: Life Sciences Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Pre-Medical/Dental/Pharmacy Track 2: Physical Sciences Astronomy, Atmospheric Sciences, Engineering, Physics Why? These majors require many sequenced courses to prepare for the major.

9. Which Associates? Which Agreement? Associate in Arts (& Sciences) (name varies by CC) Direct Transfer Agreement - DTA Associate in Science Transfer - Track 1 or Track 2 Associate in Science Transfer Agreement - AST Focus on math and science to prepare for major Is not intended to meet all general education requirements; students will take remaining gen. ed. after transfer Major Related Programs (MRP) for three different sets of engineering majors • Focus on general education and exploring • At some universities, will meet all general requirements; at UW meets most, but not all • Major Related Programs (MRP) for Business, Nursing to help students prepare for those majors

10. NO, but it’s nice to have.  DO STUDENTS HAVE TO COMPLETE AN ASSOCIATES DEGREE? But, UW has competitive admission So, Students should apply to multiple schools Which means, DTA or AST degree very helpful for admissions priority and meeting general education at many WA schools. Then what are course priorities for UW? • Admissions requirements – CADR • Explore major • Prepare for major • Associates degree completion
