Taking a Stand Notice and Wonder • You will see each picture for only 1 minute • Look at the following pictures and record your notices and wonders • Notices – anything that you see in the picture • Wonders – any thoughts you have about the picture, or things that you are curious about when looking at the picture.

  3. Review Notices and wonders • Take a look at your Notices and Wonders Note Catcher, add any last minute notes you may have. • Let’s discuss… • What do all of these photographs have in common?

  4. Learning Target 1 • I can get information from photographs about people who are taking a stand about something.

  5. Taking a stand • Based on the photographs you’ve seen today, what do you think “taking a stand” means?

  6. Learning target 2 • I can explain the advantages and disadvantages of gathering information from photographs. • (Define advantage and disadvantage)

  7. Building Background knowledge • Draw a line under your last entry in your Notice/Wonder Note Catcher. • Look at the following photograph. Write down your notices and wonders on your chart.

  8. On the back of your note-catcher… • Who is taking a stand in this photograph? • How can taking a stand be both a positive and a negative thing?

  9. Frayer Model • Let’s fill in parts of our Frayer Model together – make sure to write as small as possible! We’ll be adding more to this model as we move through our unit.
