  3. Strategic Communications Plan • Team adopted charter to meet Future Directions objectives • Workshop to identify key audiences • Message development exercise with Coordination group • Team developed plan and sought outside input

  4. Strategic Communications Plan • Plan establishes framework for joint communications activities • FGDC/GOS/TNM coordinate activities and provide the lead • Seek active involvement and participation of FGDC member agencies and organizations

Strategic Communications Plan • Focus on benefits of collaboration to support decision-making, to leverage resources, to minimize redundancies and ways to share data and information • Encourage shared responsibilities among all of us to achieve our common goal of assuring access to reliable geospatial information

Strategic Communications Plan • Collaborative, pro-active approach with federal, state, tribal, local government, academic and private sector to develop, support and implement a National Strategy for Geospatial Information • Intended as a living document • Work with other Future Directions action teams to implement their work plans

Strategic Communications Plan • FGDC secretariat provide communications support for Future Directions teams and activities • Identify and publicize best practices in development of national geospatial strategy • Communicate and support other communication activities on relevance of spatial data to wider community • Communicate benefits of interoperability

  8. Objectives • Encourage Federal, state and local governments to promote goals of NSDI • Encourage state, tribal, local government and private sector to participate in FGDC, GOS and TNM activities and programs • Increase awareness of resources needed to build NSDI

  9. Objectives • Work collaboratively with FGDC public and private partners to communicate and improve understanding and benefits of NSDI to OMB, Congress and key decision makers • Work more effectively with FGDC partners to gain their agencies support for NSDI

  13. Theme Message • We All Have a Leadership Role to Play in Building the Spatial Data Infrastructure for the Nation – the NSDI • Help us identify and define those roles, responsibilities and relationships

  14. FGDC Federal Partners • The whole is greater than the sum of its parts: all levels of government must work together to communicate, cooperate, coordinate and collaborate to build the NSDI
