  2. Stalin's family Stalin's dad was a shoe maker his mother has a wash woman stalin tried to make his dad respect him but his father was an alcoholic and beet him

  3. Early Childhood and Family • Born on December 18, 1879, in Gori, Georgia, Russia • His name at birth was Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili • He was the son of Besarion Jughashvili and Ketevan Geladze

  4. Childhood and Early Adulthood • Joseph caught smallpox at the age of 7 and it left him scarred on his face and arm. • The children in the village treated Joseph very cruelly • Stain excelled in school got a scholarship to a collage type school • Despite the fact that Stalin excelled he could not afford school and was forced to drop out

Adulthood • Stalin joined the social democratic labor party and worked full time for the Russian Revolution movement • Stalin was arrested for coordinating labor strikes • It was during this time that he took the name Stalin which means steel in Russian • Stalin was power hungry and after prison he rose to power and controlled almost all of Russia stalin propaganda

Stalin and World War Two • During WW2 is when Stalin modernized Russia • Stalin built the famed "Red Army" • Stalin was technically never part of the Allies yet he fought with them against germany and at the end of the war Japan • So ultimately Stalin played a very big part in destroying the Nazis

Stalin's Political Side • During WWII stalin (at a conference in 1943) wanted the Allies to open a second front which they did in 1944 • After FDR died and Winston Churchill was replaced the US and Britain both became suspicious of the Soviet Union • Stalin became paranoid of an invasion from the west and focused and blockading from 1945 to 1948 • He created a buffer zone between Western Europe and "Mother Russia"

  8. Stalin's Political Side (cont.) • Stalin encouraged Communist North Korea to invade South Korea • Stalin thought that US wouldn't intervene • The US supported South Korea and North Korea lost so the Soviet Union's plan failed

  9. Death • Stalin's health started to get bad in the 50's • After an assassination plot was revealed Stalin became VERY paranoid • He ordered his secret police to promote a communist surge • Stalin died on March 5, 1956 of bad health

  10. Legacy • He left a legacy of death and suffering • he also left a wake of terror in Russia • He made Russia a huge world power and modernized Russia • He made the mighty "Red Army"
