  2. EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) • An intervention program designed to provide: • 30 hours of subject specific, standards-based instruction • for on-track students in grades K-12 who are at risk of not achieving grade level standards.

  3. EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) Student Eligibility • Students scoring at Below and Far Below on the California Standards Test (CST) in English and/or Mathematics • Students receiving D or F in math, ELA or ESL • Students enrolled in DRWC • Students in Preparing for Redesignation Program (PRP) • ELS 1 and 2 students not making adequate progress Students should complete interventions prior to testing

  4. EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) 2008-09 CAHSEE Schedule: March 20, 21, 2007 Focus on 10th grade students May 12 -13, 2007 Make-up for grades 10

  5. EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) • Class Composition • English Language Arts • Mathematics • English as a Second Language (Levels1-2) • Class Size:25:1 • Classes will be closed if attendance falls below 25 students. Organization of Classes

EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) Can be offered Before/After school (Saturdays only if school has QEIA funds) Local Design requires approval of local district superintendent and submission of completedIntent to OfferIntervention form. Program Scheduling Must be received 3 weeks prior to start of session.

  8. EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) • Parents must be informed • about the following: • Available on-track intervention programs • Program dates, times and locations • Student’s at risk status • Program attendance requirements Parent Notification Requirements

  9. EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) • Teacher applicants must: • Complete ELP Teacher Application • Agree to be available for the entire session and attend BTB training. Program Staffing

EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) Selection Priorities All teachers are selected in seniority order and must hold appropriate credentials Teacher Selection Priority 1A:Permanent and Probationary Teachers Priority 1B:Non-Permanent and Non-Probationary Teachers Priority 2:Permanent site-based Non-Classroom Teachers Priority 3:Adult School Teachers Priority 4:Substitute Teachers Priority 5:Administrators

EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) Curriculum Instructional Program • Course Numbers:ELA English 23-25-21 • ELA Math 31-01-21 • ESL 1A/1B 17-02-01/17-02-02 • ESL 1A/1B 17-02-01/17-02-02 • Course Credit:2.5 credits • per 30 hours of instruction • CAHSEE Curriculum:Kaplan Prep • ESL Curriculum: BTB ESL Intervention

  13. EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) Professional Development Instructional Program • Required for ELP teachers(Only for teachers new to program) • Scheduled by BTB

EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) Attendance Accounting and Documentation • Schools must follow attendance guidelines in REF-4349.1, Attendance Accounting and Documentation for Hourly Extended Day Programs in Secondary Schools , August 4, 2008 • Attendance must be monitored and recorded • All ELP statistical reports are due: • Five days after end of the session

  15. EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) Teacher completes the following: Attendance Accounting and Documentation Use only approved forms • ELP – High School Participation Report • Attendance Register

EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) SAA/Coordinator completes the following: Attendance Accounting and Documentation • Submit credits to APSCS • Record Student intervention information in SIS and Cum. • After the 6th hour of the ELP, complete and fax Secondary Classification Report to Local District Intervention/Testing Coordinator. • Copy and send Statistical Report onto CD/floppy disc to Intervention/Testing Coordinator.

  24. EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) Note:Funding not encumbered by April may be reallocated to other schools. Budget Guidelines Funding • Budget at least 85% of allocated funds for certificated salaries. • Use local school funds to supplement (i.e. lower class size)

EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP) Budget Options Budget Guidelines • Schools may: • For the 08-09 school year, ELP funds may not be used pay administrator on Saturdays. • Use up to15% of allocation for indirect services • Use grant funding (i.e. IIUSP, HPSG, CSR and/or Title I or Title III) to supplement ELP
