  2. What to do: • The Preamble to the Constitution is in paragraph form. It states the goals of our country. • Solve the Preamble puzzle, write the introduction paragraph on the back of the puzzle sheet. • Unscramble the preamble vocabulary words writing them down. EX: word: union • We’ll correct puzzle & vocab. definitions in a bit…GO!

The Preamble: COPY ONTO YOUR PAPER EXACTLY   We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessing of liberty to ourselves and our posterity,do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Preamble Vocab: • Union: The act or uniting/coming together to form the U.S.A. • Justice: Fairness, treat people with respect. • Domestic: home, on U.S.A. soil. • Tranquility: Calm, peaceful, happiness • Common Defense: A military defending our country & rights. • Welfare: Responsibility of government to provide, health, happiness, prosperity. • Liberty: Freedoms • Posterity: Future generations • Ordain: To make Constitution document official.

  6. Posterity vs Prosperity Posterity: Future generations, your kids and their kids and their kids and their kids etc… Prosperity: To have money or wealth, not necessarily loaded or rich but financially okay!

  7. Now we will Sing! Preamble must be memorized by: Thursday 12th. Singing is a great way to learn the words! You will present by yourself in front of your teacher and class on due date.

  8. Now that you’ve solved the puzzle and understand the meaning of all the words, rewrite the preamble using YOUR own words. Coordinate your answers to the following #s:  1.We the people of the United States = (We, the citizens of America) 2. In order to form a more perfect union =(cooperation among the states, strong relationship between states and national government) 3. Establish justice = 4. Insure domestic tranquility = 5. Provide for the common defense = 6. Promote the general welfare = 7. And secure the blessing of liberty to ourselves and our posterity = 8. Do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America =

And secure the blessing of liberty to ourselves and our posterity =(protecting freedoms and preserving those freedoms for the future generations of Americans) 8. Do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America = (This document will be set up for the people of the USA, a living written promise to the people)

  10. Answers to Preamble Breakdown: • We, the citizens of America. (Representatives in Congress) • Want the United States to group together and have a better system of government than it had under King George. (50 states together as one) • We want the government to treat all Americans fairly and respectfully. (system of courts, States and Supreme Court) • We want life to be peaceful and safe in all states/homes. (police, fire department) • We want the United States government to be able to defend itself against enemies foreign and domestic. (armed forces, FBI) • We want to enjoy good living conditions and government to assist if needed. (Health care, food/clothing banks) • We want Americans to be free and to pass that freedom on to future generations of Americans. (Bill of Rights, 1st 10 Amendments) • For our union of states this document will be set up for the people of the USA and it will become a living written promise to the people. (Working, living document)
