  2. Today we are going to learn about the types of sentences. What is a sentence?

  3. What is a sentence? • A sentence is a group of words that makes sense. • A sentence expresses a complete thought. • A sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a symbol. • A sentence has at least one verb an action word. Example: Sam went to the store.

  4. Declarative Sentence. A declarative sentence makes a statement. It ends with a period (.). Examples: • The boy is happy. • The people are running.

  5. Examples Interrogative Sentence. An interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends with a question mark(?) . Examples: Who is your teacher? Have you ever seen a flying fish?

  6. Imperative Sentence. An imperative sentence gives an order. It ends with a period OR an exclamation point. Examples: Go to your room! Stop.

  7. Exclamatory Sentence An exclamatory sentence expresses strong feelings. It ends with an exclamation point. Examples: Hooray! Wow! That’s great news!

  8. Four Kinds of Sentences 3. Imperative- (.) , (!) gives a command. 1. Declarative- (.) , (!) makes a statement. 2.Interrogative- (?) asks a question. 4. Exclamatory- (!) shows strong feeling or emotions.

  9. Now it’s your turn! Remember . Don’t forget that a sentence always begins with a capital letter and ends with an end mark. The four kinds of sentences and don’t forget that imperative sentences can end two ways!
