Four Kinds of Sentences • Declarative-ends in a period • Declares something, a statement • Exclamatory-ends in an exclamation point • -Exclaims something, with emotion • Imperative-Ends in a period • Commands someone to do something • “You” is understood as the subject • Interrogative-Ends in a question mark • Asks a question, think interrogate

  4. ExamplesDeclarative/Exclamatory Declarative I saw a rattlesnake in the brush. Exclamatory I saw a rattlesnake in the brush!

  5. Examples-Imperative • Please take out the trash. (Polite, You) • Take out the trash. (You, Impolite) • Juan, please take out the trash. (Polite)

  6. Examples-Interrogative • How is the weather? • Did you pay the rent? • What time is it? • When is the play? • Where is the library? • Who is the new director?

  7. Guided Practice • Which sentences are in declarative form? • Which sentences are in exclamatory form ? • Which sentences are in imperative form? • Which sentences are in interrogative form?

  8. Independent Practice Write a declarative sentence. Write an exclamatory sentence. Write an imperative sentence. Write an interrogative sentence.
