  1. The Sun Poster Activity

  2. Gravity and the Sun • Gravity powers the Sun • Mass and gravity create extreme pressure and temperature at the core. (millions of degrees) • Conditions at the core cause hydrogen to be converted to helium • Nuclear fusion creates tremendous amounts of energy (millions of H-bombs) • Interesting Facts • The Sun is made of mostly Hydrogen and Helium • The Sun loses 4 billion Kg of mass per second (converted to energy) • Energy created at the core can take years to reach the surface • The surface of the Sun glows at a temperature of 5700 degrees

  3. Create a Small Poster of the Sun • Use pages 335 to 340 of the textbook as a reference. • Your poster must show the following information: • The fuel and energy creation process at the core • The range of temperatures found on and within the Sun • The types of radiation given off by the Sun • Sunspots and how they help us determine the Sun’s rotation period of 27 days • The particles from the sun that are responsible for auroras on Earth • How communication satellites are affected by activity at the surface of the Sun.
