Can you guess what they are? • 3 2 1 2 – 3 3 3 – 2 2 2 – 3 4 4 • 4 – 3 – 4 4 3 – 4 4 3 – 5 4 4 3 • 1 1 – 4 4 – 5 5 4 – 4 4 – 3 3 – 2 2 1 Tubular Glockenspiel How to Make Glokenspiel: • Get ten feet of 1/2-inch Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) pipe • Cut it into the five different lengths shown above • Tie the pieces together, with the largest on bottom and smallest on top, using string • Leave about 2 inches between the tubes • How can I make it sound different? • Use a different kind of pipe • Use different materials for the mallets Speed of Sound in Various Solids SZ / Sound

Bleach Bottle Banjo Bridge • To Make Banjo: • Put neck through holes in bucket • Attach wire to pins in bottom. • Place bridge under the wire (look at picture) • Insert I-hooks into neck and tighten • Place cable ties for frets on neck. • Make sound by plucking a string • To play different notes: • Use fingers to hold against the frets. • Change tightness of string • Tighten or loosen the I-hook to change tightness • Change thickness of string (Real string instruments usually have different thicknesses of strings.) • Change the length of the string • Enjoy Playing Pins I-Hook FRETS SZ / Sound

  3. Pan Pipes Open holes on top Wrap Tape around Pennies and duct tape on the bottom • Place penny in center of duct tape square – tape to one end of each tube • Wrap tape around tubes – can use pen to stabilize SZ / Sound

Thumb Piano • To make: • Put the bolts through the wood. • Place a metal strip over the bolts with a thin piece of wood on top. • Place the second strip of metal over the bolts now. • Insert the broken hair pins on top of the wood, but beneath the metal. • Set them at different lengths showing. • Tighten down with the nuts. • Enjoy playing • Make sound by plucking a pin • Different notes are caused by: • Different pin length.
