  3. What is a School Development Plan? A ROAD MAP THAT • sets out the changes a school needs to make to improve the different aspects of school ultimately improving the level of student achievement. • shows how and when these changes will be made A PLAN THAT Is more data driven and logical

  4. Issue: Can same standard be prescribed for all contexts? • Can all schools have same priorities? • Same goals? • Same performance targets? • Improvement means different things for different schools (and schools can differ widely) • Even for the same school, priorities for improvement vary with time • Then how can same standard be prescribed for all contexts?

  5. How is School-Based Development Different? • Identification of school as the primary unit of change • Each school to adapt the processes to its own needs. • Increased decision making power to the local school site • The school principal-- a key figure in the school improvement initiative

Three-year engagement Year 1 The planning process • Formation of Committees • Create scope and sequence • Discuss, review and provide feedback on targets and goals • Create curriculum map • Set time targets • Plan resources, cost and funding sources Year 2 First year of implementation • revision of school improvement plan Year 3 Implementation continues • revision of school improvement plan based on 2-3 year trend
