Addition and Subtractions of Fraction:p122 • Like Fraction: two fractions have the same (common) denominator. • Examples: 7/8 & 3/8; 2/5 &3/5 • To add (or subtract) like fractions P122: • Add or subtract the numerators and place the sum or difference over the common denominator. • Always, the answer should be in simplified (reduced) form. • Examples: • 3/7 +1/7; 5+2/3; 2/9 +4/9 (reduce); • 3 3/7 +2 5/7 ( whole # part to whole # part; fraction part to fraction part) • 5/8- 3/8; 5-3/7; • 4 3/5 -2 4/5 ( borrowing or change to improper fraction)

To add (or subtract) unlike fractions P124 • Find the least common denominator (LCD) of two or more fraction---is the least common multiple of their denominators • Change both of the denominators of fraction to LCD • You must multiplied the same numbers with denominator and to the numerators • Now the fractions become like fractions • Add or subtract the numerators and place the sum or difference over the common denominator and reduce to simplest form.
