  1. Bell Ringer In order to see which nine volt battery was the longest lasting, a student took 4 different batteries – duracell, enercell, energizer & eveready. She then inserted one of each battery in a separate alarm clock. All four alarm clocks were of the same style and from the same manufacturer. The duracell battery lasted 4.5 hours longer than the remaining three. What is the independent variable? What is the dependent variable? What was controlled?

  2. Record And Analyze Data Write the data in both a chart and graph format.

  3. Four Components of Graphing • Specific title • Labels with units • Equal intervals • Accurately recorded data

  4. What is wrong with this graph?

  5. Science Scenario Mrs. C’s class wanted to find out if bean plants grew taller if they were planted closer together or further apart. So the students labeled 3 identical pots – A, B & C. They put 1 bean plant in pot A, 3 bean plants in pot B and 6 bean plants in pot C. Each pot was put by a sunny window and given 60mL of water each day. The students then measured the height of the plants everyday. • What was controlled in the experiment? • What is the dependent variable? • What is the independent variable?

  6. Data • On the first day, the plant in pot A was 59mm, the average of B was 56mm and C was 54mm. • After day two, A was 68mm, B was 62mm & C was 57mm. • The next day, A was 78mm, B was 67mm & C was 60mm. • On day four, A was 89mm, B was 72mm & C was 63mm. • The last day they measured the plants. Plant A was 100mm, B was 77mm & C was 65mm.
