  1. Welcome to Matamata Intermediate School Literacy Group Rotation for Year 7 students on Day 1 :)

  2. Activity Un (1) Purpose: To demonstrate our fine motor control through handwriting and help our memories to remember the correct words for our school song. TASKS: • Read the school song to another group member and listen to a group member read it to you. • Copy out the school song into your English book using your neatest handwriting. • Sing it together as a group – the recording is on the wiki. • Write a sentence explaining how this task fits with our theme of Citizenship.

  3. Activity Deux (2) Purpose: To increase our knowledge of school artefacts so we can share this with other community members. To demonstrate our knowledge of writing. TASK: • Glue the excerpts of our school artefacts (the Pou,Wai-Mana-Nui, school mural) into your English book. Read them and then write down.. • how many times ‘the’ is written in all three blurbs. • a word that is hyphenated • a phrase that is written in quotation marks • an example of simile • how old you think the Pou is. Write down the evidence from the text to support your answer.

  4. Activity Trois (3) Purpose: To use a map for finding areas in the school and the people working here. TASK: Glue in a school map then take a 5 minute (put the timer on) walk around the school using your map. You need to add these details to your map: • Colour in Room 4 Blue (our House colour) • Colour in the Tech block Yellow • Label clearly where the paper recycling goes • Add detail of your choice for a reason • Write a list of Room numbers and the teachers working in them • Write a list of Office staff and make sure you spell their names correctly. Include our caretaker and librarian. 

  5. Activity Quatre (4) Purpose: To be familiar with the Expectations of being a Student at MIS and to demonstrate my knowledge of word classes and language features. TASK: Read the sheet outlining the Expectations of Students. Paste it into your literacy book. • Highlight the nouns • Underline any adjectives • Circle verbs • Highlight in a different colour to the nouns, any other language feature. Use the charts around the room to help you. Annotate (label) the feature.
