From Wichita, KS • Graduated from K-State with a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Social Studies. • First year as a classroom teacher. I have worked as a paraprofessional for students with emotional/behavioral disabilities, an instructional reading paraprofessional, and most recently an Educational Aide at Brookwood where I was responsible for providing math interventions to all grade levels. • I love to read, attend K-State sporting events (10 days to kickoff!), travel, and Pinteresting! A little about me…
Reading • Math • Science • Social Studies • Testing • DIBELS • short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills • Test of Early Numeracy • Counting 1-100 • Number Identification • Quantity Discrimination • Missing Number Curriculum Overview
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports • School wide positive reward system for acknowledging students for their good behavior • Students receive Baxter Bucks for following the 3 school rules • Be Safe • Be Respectful • Be Responsible • School wide drawing over the announcements every Friday as well as a classroom drawing where students get to pick something from the treasure chest. The student who gets drawn first in my classroom drawing will get to be the star student of the week. PBIS
PBIS • I believe in positive reinforcement and give praise to students as often as possible • Students feel good about themselves when someone notices them doing the right thing • If students should have a little trouble making good choices, students may need to move to a "safe seat". I will give redirections one time before a student will be asked to move to a safe seat.Sometimes behaviors warrant a “think sheet”. Students who fill out a “think sheet” will need to bring it home that day. Parents will be asked to look over the sheet with their child and discuss. The sheet should be signed and returned the next day. I will call home or ask to conference with you if a think sheet is filled out by your child. Classroom Management

We will be having a healthy morning snack every day. • When you sign up for snack, please make sure you provide it for the entire week. • Snacks should be sent as individual portions. Prepackaged or snack-sized ziplock bags are perfect for Kindergarten. • We do have students with peanut/nut allergies so please make sure to check labels! • Birthdays are a very special time! You are more than welcome to send treats or bring them in for your child. Please follow a few guidlines for birthday treats: • NO NUTS! • Individual or pre-cut treats • E-mail me ahead of time to let me know what day and I will let you know a good time to come in • Summer birthdays can be celebrated on half birthdays or at the end of the year. Snack/Birthday Treats
Folders • We are currently working on getting in the routine of students checking their folders in the morning for important papers to give me. Even if there is nothing in their folder it will be their responsibility to give me anything parents send to school so it is important to practice. Students should bring their folder to school every day and take them home every night. Please ask to check their folder with them to see if I have sent any important papers home with them. Communication
I am always available before and after school. If you need to contact me, you may send an email, write a note, leave a message on my voicemail, or schedule a conference. The fastest and easiest way for me to communicate with you is via email. My email address at school is: kelseyallinger@smsd.org • My classroom phone number is 913-993-2531. • If there is a serious matter you would like to discuss I would prefer to have a face to face meeting. • I will be sending home a monthly newsletter with important information. I will also put any important information on my Web Backpack. I will also send out reminders through email so make sure I have your correct email on my list! Communication
