  4. WHAT IS POPULATION? • POPULATION refers to the number of people living in a specific place or area. • POPULATIONcan also refer to the number of animals or plant species in a designated place or area

  6. CENSUS Where do we get information about different populations from? The CENSUS. The census is a set of questions that are mailed to people’s homes. People can choose to answer the questions on paper and mail them back to the government or they can complete the questions online. Census information is collected every 5 years. The last census happened in Canada in 2011.

  16. DEVELOPING COUNTRIES • A developing countryis a country that has a low standard of living, an undeveloped industrial base, few opportunities for its people and low incomes per person, but is in a phase of economic development.

  17. DEVELOPING COUNTRIES • Developing countries’ economiesare often based mostly on primary and secondary sectors of industry. - Primary Sector includes: mining, farming, fishing, forestry, etc. - Secondary Sector involves manufacturing (making things to sell to people, like steel and cars)

  18. DEVELOPED OR INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRIES • The term developed or industrialized is used to talk about countries with good economies.

DEVELOPED OR INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRIES • These countries have tertiary and quaternarysectors of industry. - Tertiary Sector includes: restaurants, hotels, hospitals, business services, waste disposal, etc. - Quaternary Sector includes: information generation, information sharing, education, research and development, consultation, ect.
