  2. What's Biomass? • Biomass power is power obtained from the energy in plants and plant-derived materials, such as food crops, grassy and woody plants, residues from agriculture or forestry, and the organic component of municipal and industrial wastes.

  3. PROS CONS Wildlife Some fuels are seasonal Not totally clean when its burned Overall process can be expensive • Renewable • Reduce pollution • Low cost • Low carbon cleaner than fossil fuels • Widely available and naturally distribute • Reduces Landfill • Protects clean water Supplies

  4. Latest Scientific Advancement • New technologies now being evaluated include several types of biomass gasifiers in which biomass is heated to convert it into a gas. This gas is used directly in a gas turbine, which drives a generator (a simple gas turbine system.)

  5. How many Biomass power plants are there in the US? In the USA more than 500 electric power plants operate on biomass
