  2. The Qualification • BSc (Hons) Podiatry • Eligibility to apply for registration with the Health Professions Council and the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists

Course Structure Highly integrated and focused course Course completed over 3 years Each year has two teaching blocks, both lasting 16 weeks The course will be delivered using both practical and theoretical elements Shared learning with other Allied Health professionals. Multi-professional groups come together to problem solve throughout the course

Practice/Clinical Placement Clinic experience is gained at the University training clinic as well as in placement settings Placements take place throughout the South West, therefore you will be required to travel to and from placements Students must complete a minimum of 1000 hours of assessed clinical practice Clinical placements are organised into 5 blocks of varying length throughout the 3 years DoH bursaries include travel and accommodation for placements

  6. Placements You may be required to travel for your practice placements, developing a broader practice experience

Inter-Professional Education Common Foundation programme facilitates an inter-professionalapproach: Opportunities for shared learning which may include students from • Child Health Nursing • Dietetics • Mental Health • Occupational Therapy • Adult Nursing • Physiotherapy • Paramedicine • Pre-Registration Midwifery -Inter-professional modules in all years of course - Specialist Allied Health Professions training facilities based near Derriford Hospital

Podiatry Clinic • Took its first patients in October 2006. • It is a cutting edge multi-disciplinary centre from which a number of health services are available, including a 14 bed Podiatry facility, a lab and plaster room and gait room. • The facility allows students to gain valuable experience within an NHS environment, practicing skills and developing Podiatrist-patient relationships and applying their knowledge with the support of both NHS and academic staff. • Experiences and skills gained enable students to act with confidence during the practice elements of the course and will prove invaluable when graduating and starting their career as a registered Podiatrist.

Your Application • Totality of the application • Academic qualifications including • – Strong GCSE profile: five grades C or above (must include English, Maths and Science) • – A Levels: 240 – 260 points (80 points required from one A level in a Biological subject) • – preference will be given to applicants with science based qualifications • Personal statement • References

Your Application What we look for: Non Standard Academic Qualifications BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in a Science or health related subject Access to higher education, to include Biology components Applications from those returning to education are welcome Evidence of Academic study in the last five years is required

  13. Personal Statement Demonstrate an interest and knowledge for the profession Evidence of related work experience Demonstrate evidence of good communication skills Ability to empathise with others Problem solving and use of initiative

  15. Recommended Study Skills Entry is competitive Students are advised to be positive about study skills as it will enable you to study more effectively. Addressing the following skills is particularly good preparation Numeracy: Including fractions & decimals Literacy: Including scan reading, academic writing, spelling and grammar IT skills: Word processing, e-mail and the use of the internet Read around Biology
