  2. A type of writing is called a font. • There are many different types of fonts. • Each has a name and comes in many sizes. • The font being used here is called Arialand is in size 24. • The bigger the number (called the point size) the bigger the writing. • The colour of a font can be changed.

  3. Dressed for the occasion

  4. Curly or straight Look at the following two fonts: They are similar fonts, but with one main difference: Times New Roman One is a serif type of font. Arial One is asans serif(san-serrif) type of font.

  5. Curly – serif Times New Roman Serifs are the little lines that look like curls at the end of each letter. Examples of serif fonts are:

  6. Straight – sans serif Arial Sans serif fonts have no little lines at the end of each letter. Examples of sans serif fonts are:

  7. Research has shown that serif fonts are easier to read. Therefore, most documents with large areas of text (like a newspaper) useserif fonts. Documents with a small amount of text (like posters) tend to usesans seriffonts.
