  11. We asked Purdue ME’s… • Why not study abroad as part of your Purdue BSME? • They told us: • 1. Expensive! • 2. Extends time to graduation! • 3. Missing out on friends and family!

  12. So we built our ME program in China to those specifications: • 1. NO additional cost! (Including airfare!) • 2. NO extended time to graduation! • 3. GOwith 29 ME friends—a class full! • And we added: For everyone in “good standing,” and classes in English, no foreign language requirement!

  13. China-ETA this semester, 31 ME’s!

  14. Note: • Shirtsleeves! Ok, we missed the snow recess. • These 33 ME’s will complete a semester of study at SJTU and return to campus for their senior year job search—with CHINA on their resume. • They are smiling!

  15. The China-ETA Program • One semester at SJTU, 15 to 18 credits • Pre-certified for Purdue credit (15 to 19) • Fits the usual “Semester Six” POS • Finish Mid-May • Taught in English, • Both Purdue and SJTU Faculty

  16. Next Spring, Semester 6 in China!

  17. Enrollment • Apply by April 30, 2011 for Spring 2012 • Complete orientation offered Fall 2011, 1 credit • Background reading, course registrations, visas, travel arrangements completed • Travel as a group first week in January 2012 • Return as a group mid-May 2012

  18. dla@purdue.edu A professional investment: • Stay competitive—international experience used to be the exception, but a revolution is underway, e.g, RPI, majority of engineers to graduate with international experience. • Internationally known partner—our partner is ranked #1 in China in Mechanical Engineering—Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

  19. What else? • Program travel to engineering and manufacturing sites (e.g., Delphi, Honeywell) • Program travel to nearby historic sites, e.g., Hangzhou • “Spring Break” at Chinese New Year’s—and guess who invented black powder?
