  2. What is PBS? • PBS is a school‐wide, proactive approach. By modeling and teaching social skills, this data‐based program helps prevent problematic behavior. It promotes positive behaviors and interactions, and improves academic performance.

  3. Teaching Behaviors The most important part of PBS is teaching expected behaviors. We do this by utilizing a school‐wide matrix of behaviors which encompasses the three main expectations of Lathrop Leopards: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. Throughout the year, students are also taught specific behavioral expectations through the use of "Cool Tools".

  4. Cool Tools Cool Tools are lesson plans that help the staff teach the expected behaviors from our school‐wide behavior matrix. Students are taught using examples taken from classroom and other settings and situations. Staff members model and role‐play in order to teach new skills and reinforce expected behaviors. Throughout the year, collected data determines which additional Cool Tools to teach.

  5. Rewards To encourage positive behavior, students are "rewarded" for making good choices. “Paw” tickets encourage and maintain appropriate behavior, while teaching students to work toward accomplishing a goal.

  6. Partnering with Parents The ultimate objective of Lathrop PBS is to create a safe learning environment, to effectively utilizes instructional time, and to partner with families so that we reinforce lifelong values in our students.

  7. As much as we try to reinforce positive behavior, there are times when studentsmake poor choices and may face disciplinary consequences. The main goal of anydisciplinary action is to help the student learn from their mistake and make better choices in the future. Consequences may include: • Possible Consequences• • Warning • Re‐teach behavior • Loss of privilege • Parent contact • Behavior contract • Office referral • Lunch/recess in quiet room • Saturday School detention • In‐school suspension • Out of school suspension

  8. How can parents be involved with PBS at home? • Help out with responsibility of homework • Create posters with expectations for home • Compare home rules with PBS rules at school • Ask if your child received a Paw ticket today • Recognize and reward positive behavior
