SOSOSY Objectives • 90% of staff will report increased capacity to deliver SOSOSY services • 25% more services will be delivered to OSY enrolled in programs leading to graduation and GED and/or services to meet identified education or career goals • 25% more OSY that participate in SOSOSY instructional services will demonstrate a 20% gain between pre/post on content-based assessments. www.osymigrant.org

Our Meeting and Work Goals • How can we ensure the following for TST members: • Allow participants to have honest discussions • Ensure everyone on the team participates • Ensure everyone is heard • Ensure that everyone lets go of personal agendas for the benefit of the TST’s immediate agenda and vision • Ensure appropriate communication www.osymigrant.org

How will we discourage interrupting? • Participation: How will we encourage everyone’s participation? • Expectations: What do we expect from team members? Curriculum and Material Development • 2.10 Develop and adapt SOSOSY lessons, website and podcast • 2.11 Expand the SOSOSY website at www.osymigrant.org to include: • Sample lessons • promising practices • PowerPoint presentations containing general information and strategies for OSY, tips, and instructional techniques • materials and resources for OSY and those who provide services to OSY • 2.13 Develop topic briefs relating key information and strategies individualized for specific jobs (e.g., administrators, recruiters, clerks, teachers, highly qualified tutors, collaborating partners, parents, and OSY) and share these on the website • 2.14 Package OSY courses and materials for ease and accessibility including: • pre-GED/GED materials • Pre-GED writing series www.osymigrant.org

Assessment • Address the SOSOSY goal • 25% more OSY that participate in SOSOSY instructional services will demonstrate a 20% gain between pre/post on content-based assessments. • Will need to work with NPC and others to review current pre/post assessments on mini lessons • Develop a data management system to support states’ data collection • Training on administering assessments and using the data to guide instruction www.osymigrant.org

Technology • 2.11 Expand the SOSOSY website at www.osymigrant.org to include: • weblinks • communication tools • materials and resources for OSY and those who provide services to OSY • 2.14 Package OSY courses and materials for ease and accessibility including: • iPad/MP3 and tablet audio files, lessons, and apps • web-based tools for planning/ evaluating services • virtual meeting resources • digital photography • distance education/virtual school • Collaborate with INeT (Plazas) www.osymigrant.org

  11. Training • 1.9 Train 2 people per state on SOSOSY using a TOT model • Develop additional modules and update current training materials • Provide training and follow up for state-approved SOSOSY trainers • Develop a tip sheets for facilitators www.osymigrant.org

  12. Mentoring • Train SOSOSY mentors to observe and assess states’ capacity to deliver services to OSY using an observation rubric and assist states onsite • Develop a process for selecting the mentors • Create observation rubric and protocol • Train mentors www.osymigrant.org

SOSOSY TST Norms All TST members will • Be fully committed to the work and will demonstrate this commitment by meeting agreed upon deadlines, participating/attending meetings and calls until outcomes/goals are fully met. • Leave each meeting with tangible products/achievements synthesizing our meeting outcomes. • Use included reflection time to promote spontaneous, creative discussion.

  16. Pilot Participation • By August 2014, at least 3 MEP staff in 80% of SOSOSY consortium states with 100 or more participating OSY (11 states) and two MEP staff in states serving less than 100 OSY (9 states) for a total of 50 staff will pilot at least 3 new SOSOSY-developed materials and provide written feedback on a pilot protocol form. • Supports Objective 1

SOSOSY Networking • The SOSOSY Consortium is ready to launch a companion to www.osymigrant.org. • The new site is designed to be a professional networking site; a venue for MEP staff from across the country to share best practices, generate forum conversations, and work together to improve efforts to identify, recruit, and provide exceptional services to OSY throughout the country. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx59Sm-wDBo www.osymigrant.org
