  2. What is a noun? A noun is a word or word group that is used to name a person, a place, a thing, or an idea. Persons- governor, children, Mr. Garcia, African Americans Places- college, islands, rain forest, Kentucky Things- computer, clouds, Ferris wheel, Lincoln Memorial Ideas- creativity, imagination, self-respect, Christianity

  3. What is a noun? Person: Mr. Garcia likes to eat spinach. Place: Mission is an old town. Thing: To cook you need a couple of pots. Quality: Honesty is a great value to possess.

What are proper nouns, common nouns, concrete nouns, and abstract nouns? • Proper Noun- names a particular person, place, thing, or idea and is capitalized • Sandra Cisneros, Houston, Statue of Liberty, Islam • Common Noun- names any one of a group of persons, places, things, or ideas and is generally not capitalized • Author, city, monument, religion • Concrete Noun- names a person, place, or thing that can be perceived (identified) by one or more of the senses (sight, sound, taste, touch, smell) • Violin, onion, word processor, Eiffel Tower • Abstract Noun- names an idea, a feeling, a quality, or a characteristic • Peace, honor, self-control, Confucianism, love

  7. Final test of your knowledge. Muahahahahaha! Rip one sheet of paper in half and give the other half to your neighbor (share is caring!) Answer the last ten questions on your own sheet of paper This is a QUIZ, so there is no talking!!!!

What are Compound and Collective Nouns? • Compound noun- consists of two or more words use together as a single noun • The parts may be written as one word, as separate words, or as a hyphenated word • ONE WORD- baseball, caregiver, willpower, Greenland • SEPARATE WORDS- guests of honor, school bus, North Forest High School • HYPHENATED WORD- self-confidence, president-elect, Stratford-on-Avon • Collective noun- a word that names a group • Band, jury, class, swarm, group, herd
