  4. Introduction to and Purposes of Common Standards • Common Standards set the institutional context in which all programs offered there operate. They are the BIG picture. • Common Standards tie together all programs in an institution so that each program is represented. • Program Standards give the particulars for each program.

  6. Revisions to Common Standards • Commission adopted revised Common Standards in June 2007 • Revised Common Standards implemented as of July 1, 2008 • Concerns about the applicability of these standards to all types of credential programs and all types of program sponsors—so proposed EDITS

Revised Standards Concepts or language new to the Common Standards are underlined-- 1: Educational Leadership: The institution and education unit create and articulate a research-based vision for educator preparation that is responsive to California's adopted standards and curriculum frameworks and provides direction for programs, courses, teaching, candidate performance and experiences, scholarship, service and unit accountability. 3-Alignment Matrix #1

  11. Revised Common Standards Use • Green cohort institutions may respond to either the 2007 Common Standards or the edited 2008 standards. • All other institutions will respond to the edited 2008 Common Standards for both Site Visits and Program Approval.
