This Pre-K Focus Group, held on January 6, 2010, aims to introduce and implement fun math activities that are aligned with New York State (NYS) Pre-K mathematics standards and performance indicators. Attendees will engage in a collaborative space, participating in discussions, hands-on sessions, and sharing effective techniques for integrating math with literacy. The agenda includes registration, networking, curriculum discussions, and a "Make and Take" session. This workshop promotes innovative teaching methods to enhance pre-K students’ math skills and vocabulary.

Math and Literacy Integration • Incorporating Literature (i.e. The Shape Poem/and Song) • Communication (i.e. building with shapes, math vocabulary) • Making Connections (i.e. art and music) • Formative Assessment (i.e. individual work using shape soup recipe and creating a visual)>
Literacy/Math Connection • If you have used one of the literature pieces in your classroom share a different activity that you have tried. (record it on the chart paper) • What other books do you recommend for math and literacy integration?
Make and Take Overview (PM) • Aligned to NYS math standards and performance indicators (Sample Tasks). • 5 rotations (number sense (a), measurement (b), algebra (c), geometry (d) and statistics/probability (e)). Your letter is on your nametag. • 20 minute rotations
