  5. The Project Components: • Static flood maps library • HAZUS detailed analysis • Real-time dynamic application

  6. Approach • Develop GIS static map library • Perform Level 2 Hazus analysis • Build dynamic application based on static map effort • Partners use & test dynamic application • Implement static maps publically through NWS AHPS

  7. Progress • Static map library delivered to partners • Polis completed HAZUS analysis & report • Dynamic RT application rolled out in June • Working with NWS on AHPS delivery

Static Library Mapping Process • Gathered DEMs, channel geometry, high-water mark, streamgage historic data. • Built calibrated hydraulic model – USGS FastMech • Made multiple model runs for increasing streamflow/stage • Produced a map GIS grid for each stage at a preset interval – e.g. every foot

  11. HAZUS Analysis • Polis Center • HAZUS MR-3 Level 2 Analysis – 15 min. • Imported flood grid • Imported inventory – IMAGIS • # structures, structure damage, structure count by category

  12. SOA – Service Oriented Architecture Allows different applications to exchange data with one another. Products/services based on interoperability of independent & distributed applications.

Some points • RT application is state-of-the-art – and experimental! • IN approach • Get RT infrastructure built and tested • Build static map libraries served through AHPS • Implement static models in RT application later • A platform to build on – more complexity, trib inputs, breach modeling • Highly expandable, ideally suited for partnering – everyone can have a part

Potential partner components • NWS – flood forecasting, tech guidance, QA/QC • USGS – streamgaging, channel surveying, H&H • FEMA – HAZUS-MH, RiskMap • USACE – hydraulic modelling, reservoir ops • Private sector – new hydraulic models • State and local partners – flood response plans • Universities – research, social science
