Output area A:Action learning on Agri-business Development • Participating organisations are improving their understanding and practice • Currently 15+ cases in various sub-sectors from SNV, Heifer, Oikocredit-Pawdep, HSHC, PELUM, Solidaridad, ICCO-Forefinance KENFAP, WRCCS, IDCCS, KOAN, KIOF, Ufadhili Trust, KCPA • Skill improvement sessions and coaching • New cases welcome!

Output Area B:Access to Financial Services and Products Objective: Clarity on demand and supply for financial products Improve services (technically, commercially, risk mitigation) to producer organisations Activities (so far): Value Chain Finance Market Study VCF Event Linking financial service providers to action –learning cases of APF Kenya members (e.g. forefinance pilots and Oikocredit)

Business Café Objective Forge coalitions / partnerships around the presented topics, using the APF Kenya network Process • 5 corners with topics • 2 rounds of discussion • Participants subscribe in topics for 1st and 2nd round • Topic is introduced by table owner • A note taker is appointed to capture the main points of the discussion on flip charts • The discussion is to be led by the table owner. • We at least like the following points documented: • Lead organization and person of the follow-up activity • Participating organizations in the initiative and their role • Ambitions of the follow-up initiative • Concrete activities for the coming 6-12 months • How will the initiative be part of APF Kenya?

Partnership dating market Objective Provide opportunity to participating organizations to seek partnerships for on-going and new initiatives Process • Organizations wanting to advertise their partnership needs prepare a flipchart stating: • What do I have on offer? • What am I looking for? • Owners put up their advertisement in the corner where their subject belongs • Other participants circulate and look for opportunities • If a partnership opportunity is identified, a date is made and recorded on a card: • Subject of the date • Person and their organizations dating • Follow-up (nature of the date) • Put concluded dates on the indicated wall

Joining the action learning initiative • Personal and organizational commitment to invest in learning and willingness to share • Identify an on-going case in your work to learn from specifically • Contact Tito Arunga, APF Kenya coordinator • Join the APF Kenya Ning (http://apf-kenya.ning.com) • Download the case description form and fill it • Choose 2 form the 7 learning questions to focus on • Participate in on-line debate and face-to-face meetings

What can be learned from the cooperative model for agri-business development? • How to improve the knowledge in POs on assessing financial and investment risks and opportunities? • How to do an effective value chain and system analysis with actors, including assessment of opportunities? • How do we promote the fair distribution of investments and returns along the value chain? • How to empower women and youth to take a leadership role in agricultural business?
