  2. The Cell

  3. Plant Versus Animal Cells

  4. Plant Versus Animal Cells • Plant and animal cells are similar. They both have a Nucleus, Cytoskeleton, Mitochondrion, Ribosome, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and Lysosome. • An animal cell has other things like multiple vacuoles, and centrioles. • A plant cell has organelles like one large vacuole, a chloroplast, and a rigid cell wall.

  5. A Cell Is Like A House

  6. A Cell Is Like A House • A cell is like a house because it has multiple functions and takes more than just one thing operate. • A house is just as complex a structure as a cell is.

  7. A Nucleus Is Like A Living Room

  8. A Nucleus Is Like A Living Room • The nucleus is like a living room because it is the center of the cell. • In most houses, the living room is where the most action happens; families and friends gather, entertainment is produced and much more. • In a cell, some of the more important things happen in the nucleus; transcription, translation and replication.

  9. The Cell Membrane Is Like A Wall

  10. The Cell Membrane Is Like A Wall • The cell membrane protects the inside of a cell and a wall of a house protects the inside of the house.

  11. The Endoplasmic Reticulum Is Like A Hallway

  12. The Endoplasmic Reticulum Is Like AHallway • The Endoplasmic reticulum is like a hallway because it is a passage way for proteins to move in and out of the cell just as a hallway is a passage to move around in a house.

  13. The Golgi Apparatus Is Like A Closet

  14. The Golgi Apparatus Is Like A Closet • The Golgi apparatus is like a closet because it packages and moves proteins as a closet is for placing packages.

  15. The Mitochondrion Is Like Electricity

  16. The Mitochondrion Is Like Electricity • The mitochondrion is like electricity because it is what gives the cell its energy and power. • Electricity powers the house and makes it so that the house can function its appliances. • The mitochondrion are also called the “powerhouse” of the cell.

  17. The Vacuole Is Like A Refrigerator

  18. The Vacuole Is Like A Refrigerator • The vacuole is like a refrigerator because it stores food and water. • Vacuoles also store the waste from the cell, making it the only difference from a refrigerator.

  19. The Ribosome Is Like A Kitchen

  20. The Ribosome Is Like A Kitchen • The ribosome is like a kitchen because it is where food is transformed and cooked to be consumed and changed into energy. • The ribosome is where the proteins are changed (where translation takes place).
