  1. Engine Cirrus SR22 12/23/03

  2. General • Powered by a Teledyne Continental IO-550-N engine • Six cylinder • Normally aspirated • Fuel injected • 310 horsepower @ 2700 RPM • 2000 hour Time Between Overhaul (TBO) • Dual magneto ignition system

  3. General • Attached to airframe by a six-point steel mount structure attached to firewall • Firewall attach points are reinforced with gusset-type attachments that transfer forces into fuselage shell

  4. Oil System • Provides engine cooling, cleaning, and lubrication • Delivers hydraulic pressure to governor which regulates propeller pitch • Wet sump, high pressure system • 8 quart capacity

  5. Oil System • Components • Oil Pump • Positive displacement pump located within engine case • Oil Cooler • Incorporates a bypass valve which isolates the cooler when the oil temperature is less than 180°F • Oil Filter • Sump (Oil Pan) • 8 quart capacity

  6. Engine should be operated with between 6 and 8 quarts of oil Oil and oil filter should be changed every 50 hours after engine break-in See section 8 of POH for approved and correct grades of oil Oil System

  7. Abnormal Conditions Oil annunciator will illuminate if: Oil temperature exceeds 240°F Oil pressure is less than 10 PSI Oil System OIL

  8. Cooling System • Accomplished through the combined effort of the oil system and air cooling • Oil System – Air passes over the oil cooler drawing heat away from the oil returned to the engine • Air Cooling – Baffels in the engine cowl direct outside air down through the cylinders and out the underside of the cowl

  9. Air passes through a dry-foam air filter, through the throttle butterfly valve, into the engine manifold, and then into the cylinder combustion chambers Alternate Air Use if main induction becomes clogged Pilot will note loss of engine power and/or roughness Source is inside cowl Unfiltered air Air Induction System

  10. Dual ignition system 2 spark plugs per cylinder Two engine driven magnetos provide electricity for spark Right Magneto Lower Right and Upper Left Spark Plugs Left Magneto Upper Right and Lower Left Spark Plugs Ignition System

  11. Exhaust System • Exhaust manifold connects each cylinder to the muffler • Two mufflers, left and right • Exhaust gasses vented at the underside of the engine cowl • Heat exchanger on right muffler provides cabin heat

  12. Power Lever Single lever that controls both throttle position and propeller governor position Throttle Controls amount of air metered to cylinders from the throttle valve Mixture Controls mixture control valve located in the engine driven fuel pump Engine Controls

  13. Start/Ignition - allows selection of independent magnetos, both magnetos, and starter engagement • Alternate Air – allows selection of alternate induction air. Located in the pilots foot well to the left

  14. Indicating • Oil Warning Light • Tachometer • Oil Temperature • Oil Pressure • Exhaust Gas Temperature • Cylinder Head Temperature • Fuel Flow • Manifold Pressure
